What to Expect in Residential Treatment


Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment: 

We treat the whole person. Our  facilities provide the highest-quality care for co-occurring disorders, such as addiction and depression

Safe Medical Detox: 

You’re in good hands with us during detox. You’ll be safe and comfortable, attended to 24/7 by our doctors and nurses. We utilize the revolutionary EarlySense technology to monitor your vital signs while you sleep.

Intensive Medical Rehab:

You will be provided inpatient rehab which offers 24/7 medical supervision in a live-in environment at some of our facilities for patients in need of a higher level of medical care.

Live-in Rehabilitation: 

All of our facilities welcome patients in residential rehabilitation where we provide live-in treatment that is fully focused on recovery in a sober environment.

Day Treatment (6+ hrs/day): 

Each of our treatment centers offers a partial hospitalization program, sometimes called “day treatment,” to patients who need a good deal of support but still wish to live at home.

Intensive Outpatient (3+ hrs/day): 

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) involves going to treatment several hours per day but returning home when you’re done. Many people will step down from residential or day treatment into an IOP.

Telehealth Addiction Treatment: 

We provide outpatient services via telehealth so you can receive the support you need from your home. All telehealth services are offered via confidential, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing.

Outpatient Therapy: 

Standard outpatient therapy provides a limited number of therapy hours per week. Outpatient therapy can keep you grounded in your goals and connected to sober supports as you progress in your recovery.

Veterans Program:   

If you’re a veteran who needs help, you’re not alone. We offer specialized treatment where you’ll connect with staff and peers who understand the unique challenges veterans face.

First Responders Program:

Our first responders’ program, available at select facilities, provides specialized care that include trauma-focused treatment and the support of peers and staff who understand the challenges of being a first responder.

Impaired Professionals Program: 

Our impaired professionals program gets you back on track and back to doing what you love.

LGBTQ+ Treatment:

Our LGBTQ+ tracks at select facilities serve as a safe, open, and supportive place for LGBTQ+ individuals to get the help they need.


Chronic Mental Illness Treatment:

Struggling with a chronic mental illness can make recovering from addiction uniquely challenging. We’re here for you.


Christian Recovery Program:  

Faith-based rehab and addiction treatment based in Christianity.


Treatment Medications:

We offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) at each of our facilities to help you stay sober. MAT involves medication + counseling for long-term recovery.

Proven Addiction Therapies:

We utilize evidence-based therapies that have been proven effective for substance use disorders, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.

Trauma-Based Therapies:  

We help you resolve underlying traumas that keep you abusing drugs or alcohol through proven therapies such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and more.

One-on-One Counseling:

Each of our programs offers you the opportunity to receive personal counseling sessions to work through issues with which you’re struggling.

Group Therapy:

Group therapy is at the core of treatment at American Addiction Centers facilities. You’ll share with, learn from, and support your peers during moderated sessions.

Family Therapy:

We’ll work with you to heal strained family relationships and teach you and your loved ones better, healthier ways to communicate and interact.

Faith-Based Therapy:

Faith-based therapy allows you to incorporate your spiritual beliefs as you work through issues in therapy.

Equine Therapy:

Therapist-led sessions use horses, who are very sensitive to a person’s emotional state, to help reach therapeutic goals.

Art and/or Music Therapy:

Find new, creative ways to express your emotions and share your experiences through music and art.


Yoga’s benefits for those in recovery include improvement in stress levels, regular time for self-reflection, decreased anxiety, and improved sleep.

12-Step Groups:  


SMART Recovery/Other Secular Groups:

 All AAC facilities allow for participation in 12-Step recovery groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

Sober Housing Available : Many of our facilities offer sober living nearby where residents can live in a drug- and alcohol-free community after attending treatment.
